New overhead flashing lights to go live on Route 220 near Summit View Business Park in Franklin County
Beginning early on Thursday morning, October 22, two new overhead flashing lights will begin working on Route 220 (Virgil Goode Highway) at its intersections with Pleasant Breeze Road and Commonwealth Parkway. The purpose of the flashers is to alert drivers of potential traffic turning onto and off the highway.
Drivers will see flashing yellow lights on Route 220 northbound and southbound at both intersections indicating motorists to proceed with caution.
In addition, flashing red lights will be seen on Commonwealth Parkway and Pleasant Breeze Road where they intersect with Route 220. The flashing red lights will require drivers to come to a complete stop, like a stop sign, before proceeding onto Route 220.
In the future, as development continues and traffic volumes increase the intersection will be converted to traffic signal control. VDOT will continue to monitor traffic levels and will enable traffic signal operation when it is warranted and safe to do so.
